Asthma & Diabetes
Our modern era has brought with it incredible advances in medicine and health, but at the same time has seen an explosion of “Diseases of Poor Lifestyle”, including Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Obesity, High Cholesterol, Heart Disease and Strokes. Despite most of us knowing full well that there are major health benefits in following a healthy portion-controlled diet, exercising regularly, not smoking and not drinking excessively, there are very few of us who actually do all those things.

It’s not all down to the choices we make. Our genetic background plays a hugely important but variable role in all of the above, and the negative impact of STRESS cannot be over-emphasised.

Some diseases, like Asthma, have many variations and seem to affect each individual differently, which is why it’s very important to be individually assessed in order to provide the best advice to minimise its impact on quality of life. The aim is to allow everyone the opportunity to achieve their potential free of Asthma symptoms, whether that’s in sport or just getting a good quality night’s sleep without coughing or wheezing.

Preventative Medicine involves trying to assess your individual risk by looking at many aspects that impact on health – your lifestyle, your genetic background, your age, your family history, your accumulated health incidents (like serious illness, accidents, injuries) and your current health parameters (Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar, Cholesterol levels, Weight, Kidney function) – and coming up with an action plan together to moderate, improve or reverse any risk factors we identify.

Vaccinations, Breast exams, Mammograms, Pap Smears, Bone Density checks for Osteoporosis, Prostate checks & Colon Cancer screening all fall under the preventative umbrella & would be arranged during your consultation.
